About

The ‘Mighty Eighth’ Podcast tells the story of People, Planes and Places of the United States 8th Army Air Force during World War Two.

Arriving in England in 1942, the USAAF 8th Army Air Force was the biggest air armada of all time, capable of sending thousands of planes on a single mission.

By mid-1944, it had a total strength of more than 200,000 people, with more than 2,000 four-engine bombers and 1,000 fighters targeting occupied Europe.

But winning the war came at a hefty price.

The ‘Mighty Eighth’ suffered about half of all USAAF casualties – including more than 26,000 dead and missing in action.

Co-hosted by UK-based journalist Johann Tasker and military historian Mike Peters, who both live in Suffolk, UK,  this podcast tells the story of the Mighty Eighth.
